Ex bf trying to talk to me still?

I have an ex bf in the Army Reserves. I met him online and within a day he wanted to meet. So I did under pressure (lied to my mom and wish I didn't) well we never got along and we dated briefly for 3 weeks. I figured out he was a player and all. I haven't talked to him in over a year and a month ago he sent me a friend request on my old facebook (I have a new one now) and he sent me a message saying 'whats up?' He has a gf or fiance from what it looks like. So why is he trying to talk to me?
